My friend Deborah Butler and I took a
trip to Morocco the last week in
December 2006 and the first week in
January 2007. We flew to Casablanca
and there we visited the third largest
mosque in the world, Mosque Hassan II.
Next we went to Marrakech to see the
monkeys and the snake charmers in the
square Djema el Fna. Then we headed
further south to Ouarzazate. This small
town at the edge of the Sahara has a
movie studio where
Lawrence of Arabia,
Black Hawk Down and The Mummy were
filmed, among many others. We sent
New Year's Eve in Ouarzazate. The next
morning we met our guide Abdou. For
the next three days he and an
assistant/cook took us on hike in the
central High Atlas Mountains and a
camel trek in the Sahara desert
