Waterfalls and Rivers
Sept 5  and Sept 12 - Toxaway River Trail Maintenance
The upper portion of the Toxaway River Trail, between Fisher Falls and Raven Rock Falls, is
badly in need of maintenance and on these two dates we hiker/volenteers will join forces with
the LTPOA to improve this wonderful community amenity.  The LTPOA  will handle the harder
work - chainsaws etc - and we will trim back encroaching doghobble, add rocks to river
crossing, renew the blazes, etc.  Come along, it will be fun, the work will  be easy and you"ll
perform a valuable service for our community.
  • Hikes are Friday mornings unless otherwise noted.
  • Meet at the Brew Bird coffee shop by 8:45 am. (Park at the Citgo.) Leave at 9 am.
Usually back by lunch unless noted.
  • Bring water and sunscreen. Wear appropriate footwear (Hiking boots strongly
    recommended).
  • Please let me know if you plan to come. (Not required, just helpful). Click here
tony@laketoxaway.com or phone me at 828-966-4260 ext 250
  • Please be aware you are hiking at your own risk. The hike leaders, the Lake Toxaway
Company and the LTPOA are not responsible for accident or illness.
  • Hike leader may change or cancel hike at any time for any reason. Check back often for
changes, especially if the weather is questionable.

Sept 26 -  Lower Whitewater Falls
Easy (Details).
Gentle hike to a spectacular waterfall.  The Coon Branch Trail takes us through a primeval
forest, never logged, then along a ridge to the Lower Whitewater Falls--nearly as
spectacular but not nearly as visited as its upstream cousin.
Sept 19 - Whitewater Falls
Easy or strenuous, depending on the direction. Easy if you take the short hike from the
parking lot
(Details)

This is probably the most impressive waterfall in the area, plunging 411 feet.  There are two
easy ways to see it.  -- easy and strenuous.  We'll go first to the parking area at the top of
the falls and leave a car.  Those who want an easy hike can take the 1/4-mile hike to the
viewing platform. Those who want a more strenuous hike can go to the lower parking lot and
hike back up to the upper lot.  Either way it's a beautiful hike.
